Fitting a Pack

Younger Scouts should not purchase a pack too soon. (save your money for socks)

Scouts grow rapidly in the first year of Scouting and should wait to purchase a pack.

Packs can be rented from the troop quartermaster during this time.

Layering

Pay attention to material selection.

Plato's closet is a great place to find camp clothes including outer rain shells.

Again, young scouts should not purchase expensive clothing for camping.

Socks

This is one of the most important items to have.

Purchase good socks as described here.

You can wear the same clothes all weekend, but wear clean socks each day!

Balancing Your Pack

Boots

Younger Scouts will be growing fast and should not buy expensive hiking boots that they will rapidly grow out of.
